With over-specialized training in the field
Dr. Basile began his university career with a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences at the University of Montreal from 2005 to 2008 during which he developed an interest in the treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies. Subsequently, he began his doctorate in Medicine from 2008 to 2012, which allowed him to confirm his fondness for orthopedic surgery. He completed his residency in the Edouard Samson orthopedic program during which he distinguished himself by winning the prize for the best finishing resident. His journey led him to be rapidly exposed to oncology orthopedics by working with his mentors and future colleagues Dr. Sophie Mottard and Dr. Marc Isler.
After graduating from the orthopedic surgery program and being named a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCS), Dr. Basile continued his training with two years of sub-specialization in orthopedic oncology. The first year was spent at the prestigious Harvard University in Boston where he divided his time between Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). He was thus exposed to a very wide variety of adult and pediatric pathologies. His second year of subspecialization was with the Mount Sinai Hospital orthopedic oncology team treating the largest number of sarcoma patients in Canada. This allowed him to develop his technical knowledge and skills before joining the oncology orthopedic team at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. Dr. Basile's exposure to pediatric tumors has also allowed him to refine the care of this very specific clientele in order to be able to also take care of new cases of pediatric sarcomas at Sainte-Justine Hospital in collaboration with Dr. Sophie Mottard and Dr. Marc Isler.
