With over-specialized training in the field
Dr. Gervais graduated from the General Surgery program at the University of Montreal in 2014. She then completed a two-year subspecialty in Oncologic Surgery at the University of Toronto. During her fellowship years, she went to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London to specialize in sarcoma and the National Cancer Institute in Tokyo for training dedicated to stomach cancer. At the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, her areas of expertise include retroperitoneal sarcoma, melanoma, gastric cancer, and breast cancer.
As an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Montreal, Dr. Gervais is involved in teaching and clinical research. She is a member of the Oncologic Surgery Specialty Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the General Surgery program committee of the University of Montreal.
Dr. Gervais is involved in establishing guidelines for the management of retroperitoneal sarcomas, serving as chair of this sub-committee with the Quebec Cancer Program of the Quebec Ministry of Health. She is a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Sarcoma Clinical and Research Collaboration (CanSarcc), an organization whose role is to improve health care for patients with sarcoma and to develop cooperation among experts across the country. Internationally, she is a member of the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group (TARPSWG).
Her involvement in clinical research is notable within the institution and national committees. Dr. Gervais is the local principal investigator of phase 3 clinical studies. She is a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Gastric Cancer Association (CGCA), serving as a leader of the clinical studies committee. Her publications are mostly in the field of outcomes research, which is her main area of research interest.
