With over-specialized training in the field
Dr. Sophie Mottard completed her medical studies at the University of Montreal from 1996 to 2008. She began her university studies by completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, which provided her with a foundation on which her mind and scientific rigor developed. She then completed her residency in orthopedic surgery within the university hospital network of the University of Montreal (Orthopedic Program Edouard Samson).
During her orthopedic residency, Dr. Mottard participated in several fundamental and clinical research projects in collaboration with the Maisonneuve-Rosemont joint replacement team, which allowed her to refine her knowledge of study planning and implementation. These projects led to several national and international presentations and several publications in prestigious scientific journals.
Throughout her training, Dr. Mottard stood out by winning many awards, both for her research projects and for her human qualities. The Julie Laurin prize was awarded to her in 2006; awarded to the orthopedic resident who has successfully integrated their clinical and teaching human qualities into their practice. Upon completing her residency in 2008, she received the prestigious Daniel-Tassé prize, awarded by the University of Montreal to the final resident in surgery, of all specialties combined, by the entire professoriate of the Surgery Department for her qualities as a clinician and educator.
After completing her specialist training in orthopedic surgery (FRSC), Dr. Mottard added a period of sub-specialization in musculoskeletal oncology (Maisonneuve-Rosemont and England). Her year in England was spent at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, internationally renowned as one of the leading centers for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors, with over 1,000 consultations per year. This year abroad allowed her to meet surgeons with a very long experience in orthopedic oncology and to refine her knowledge of the optimal management of sarcomas. She therefore brings European expertise to the Maisonneuve-Rosemont orthopedic oncology team.
Since her return, she has been taking care of all cases of musculoskeletal tumors in partnership with Dr. Marc Isler. The multidisciplinary approach for optimal patient care in neoplasia is one of the pillars of her clinical approach. To this end, Dr. Mottard is surrounded by an unparalleled oncology team, whether in radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, or psychological follow-up.
